4-peat USAFE Champions!

The 2012 USAFE Ice Hockey Champions, the KMC Eagles, dedicate their victory in memory of A1C Cuddeback

The KMC Eagles are Champions of the 2012 USAFE Ice Hockey Tournament for the 4th year in a row!

The Eagles started off the tournament playing the Baden Bruins, but they started off hot as they beat them 12-3.

They continued the roll as they went on to beat Wiesbaden and Stuttgart, winning their tournament pool and guaranteeing a bye.

Moving into the medal games, the Eagles faced the Shape Shields and we were able to pop 5 goals behind the two-time goalie of the tournament, beating them 6-0 with an empty netter in the end.

Onto the championship game…

This year was a rematch of the championship game at last year’s tournament with the Eagles going head-to-head with the GK Flyers.

At first, we all thought it might be a blow out because the Eagles scored in the first 15 seconds of the game. However, we were definitely mislead. The game was intense, with the goals going back and forth. At one point the Eagles were down 4-2, but they battled back and ended up taking the lead back with the score of 8-6 with about a minute left. GK pulled their goalie, but the Eagles were able to steal the puck and Scott Zwiers carried the puck into the empty net to secure their 4th USAFE Championship in a row with a score of 9-6!

Not only did we win the Championship, but we received a few tournament individual awards, including Scott Zwiers’ 2nd MVP trophy in a row and Shane Saum winning the offensive player award with 21 points in 5 games!

Todd accepted the trophy on the team’s behalf and dedicated the championship win to A1C Zac “Cudde” Cuddeback who lost his life in the Frankfurt shooting last year.
